How the estimate works

fuel cost (R) = distance × consumption ÷ 100 × fuel price
net earnings (R) = earnings − fuel cost − other expenses
profit per km (R/km) = net earnings ÷ distance

This is an estimate built from the numbers you enter, it does not represent what Uber pays, and it isn't financial advice. It answers a different question: if my day looked like this, what did I actually keep per kilometre?

What belongs in "other expenses"

Fuel is usually the biggest daily cost, but not the only one. Include the daily slice of anything you pay to keep the car on the road: insurance, vehicle finance, maintenance and tyres, data, car washes, tolls and parking. For the full breakdown, and which costs are business costs, see Uber driver expenses in South Africa.

Uber driver profit questions

How much profit does an Uber driver make per kilometre in South Africa?

There is no single honest number, it depends on your city, your hours, your fares, your car and your costs. Anyone quoting one average is guessing. Enter your own figures above to see your estimate, and track your actual numbers over time for the real answer.

Does this calculator include Uber's commission?

Indirectly: enter the amount that actually reaches your account, which is after Uber's commission and fees. If you enter gross fares instead, add the commission under other expenses, just be consistent.

Why does profit per kilometre matter more than daily earnings?

Because R1 200 earned on 300 km and R1 200 earned on 150 km are very different days, the second one cost half as much fuel and wear. Profit per kilometre lets you compare days, weeks and platforms fairly.
