Recent official petrol price history
Official scheduled petrol prices per litre as they took effect, newest first. South African fuel prices are adjusted on the first Wednesday of each month (with occasional mid-month interventions), so this table grows one row at a time as each new schedule is published.

This history starts in September 2026, when BhutiFuel began tracking the official schedule. It is not a complete record of every past price change.
What these prices are
South African fuel prices are published in official schedules that are adjusted regularly. The schedule shown here is the one BhutiFuel currently uses for its calculations, with the inland reference zone (Gauteng) and the coastal reference zone listed separately, because pump prices differ between them. Inland prices are higher than coastal prices, mainly because of the cost of transporting fuel from the coast to inland depots.
Prices are per litre, in rands. Always confirm the price on the pump at your station: retail prices can vary slightly by station and region within these reference zones.
What today's price means for your driving
The arithmetic is simple and you can run it yourself with the cost per kilometre formula: multiply the price per litre by your car's consumption per 100 km, then divide by 100. At these prices, every litre your car burns has a direct rand value, and every extra L/100 km of consumption costs you that much more on every single trip.
When the schedule changes, the impact scales with your kilometres. Use the fuel cost calculator with the new price to see what a day, a week or a month of driving will cost before the change reaches your tank.
Where these prices come from
Prices on this page and in the BhutiFuel app come from the official DMPR fuel price schedule, and both use the same numbers. When the department publishes a new schedule, this page and the app are updated together.
